Don’t hire me!
Someone else did. Can’t disclose details yet – and probably not here anyway… It’s wine related, of course, and based in Asia. I know “Asia” is vague, but it’s actually based wherever I want in this region, within reasonable budget constraints and in a place that makes sense business-wise [no, Java and Penang don’t qualify alas], since I will be in a different country every week – so whichever city I call home doesn’t really matter to my employer, as long as it has an international airport and I keep hopping around…
So Da Missus and I have voted for Hong Kong – but I won’t believe it until I sign the rental contract… Just like I didn’t believe in this job until my new boss called me this morning… Call me pessimistic, but I once interviewed for a very nice job I was well qualified for, and thought I had it. The disappointment that ensued made sure I’ll never, ever, believe again in my feelings regarding such things.
Now where is that bottle of champagne?

So that’s done! When will we have the pleasure to make you discover La Perle de l’Orient?

No better New Year’s present than a phone call on January 2 asking “You still interested to work for us?”… I am starting soon, but between training and a first few meetings in Seoul, HK and S’pore in February, I don’t think I will make it to Shanghai before March or April… Which could be quite after you left

Thanks Christian. I guess we’ll have more opportunities to meet now that I am supposed to spend a week per month in Korea
