09/30 This sure doesn’t look like London to me

I quite enjoy reading Gizmodo, although I’ve noticed they are pretty clueless on things Asian – and my emails correcting them usually go unanswered, oh well. However, it appears Gizmodo is also very cluelessky on things British. Point in case: Driverless Buses Headed to London, May Miss It, which comes with the [albeit funny] misleading picture:

This ain't London, mate

Looks like a little Photoshopping has been done to remove part of the ads on the side of the bus, too. But a Korean bus it is, nonetheless. Nothing to do with London, move along. Anyway, this image is a keeper, since this is a picture of a Seoul bus before the reform of Seoul’s Bus network, where all bus went RGB: Red for longer distances, and all-seaters, Blue and Green for long distances, but Ferris-wheel style: hang on to anything that’s bolted to the bus: seats, handles, ajummas, whatever; and Yellow for local routes.

Of course some say GRBY is the abbreviation of 지랄 버스야, but who am I to say? :-)

I think this bus is called an AeroBus, which is appropriate for the picture.

09/28 Why Oh Why?

You ask a company to represent you abroad. You send this company’s representative the catalogues of all products. But you forget [?] to include the price list. How does this make the company look like when meeting importers? Like a dork. Yes… Thank you France, the 35 hours workweek and all the niceties that make your life so easy, and mine so miserable.

09/26 Weird search strings

I get from time to time enough free time to check search strings that lead to my site. I got these lately:

  1. how to unglue visas from the passport
  2. stalinism

??!?!?!?!? I thought the Soviet Union was dead, and visas stamped anyway…

D’uhuhuhuh

09/26 The most unkorean I’ve seen so far

고품격 라이프스타일을 위한 웰빙 피자. Check that. And then again, so Korean, in a freakish way…

09/26 Getting a degree

I got a phone call today asking me to join a party. I was told: “000씨는 博士學位를 받으려고 했다”. Which translates – litterally – as he decided/agreed to receive a PhD degree. Mind you, it’s not like he’s been offered a degree for free [or not], fresh off Thai printers… The expression was interesting enough that I thought I’d blog it.

Meanwhile another friend of mine has also decided/agreed to receive a PhD degree, but we all worry it could be a PmD: Post-mortem Degree…
